What is the NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), will provide all Australians under 65 who have a permanent and significant disability, with the reasonable and necessary supports they need to enjoy an ordinary life.

The NDIS will help people with disabilities achieve their goals.

The Scheme is run by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).

Can I access the NDIS?

To become an NDIS participant a person must:

  • Have a permanent disability that significantly affects their ability to take part in everyday activities;
  • Be aged less than 65, when they first enter the NDIS;
  • Be an Australian Citizen or hold a permanent visa or a Protected Special Category visa;
  • and live in Australia where the NDIS is available.

How to access benefits through the NDIS?

If you already receive supports, evidence may not be needed and the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) will contact you when it’s time to transition to the NDIS.

If you don’t receive any supports, you can request access by calling the NDIS (on the NDIS 1800 number below)
